Carla Gignilliat is an explorative artist who paints using mainly acrylics and mixed media. Her work teeters on the realistic edge with an abstract flair and often a touch of charcoal or gold.
The current direction of her work is creating abstract landscapes and treescapes, and her inspiration is drawn from photography (much of her own) and from nature itself. A photograph or memory is studied or meditated on, followed by intuition taking over to bring a painting to fruition. Carla also enjoys painting florals and working with clients on customized commissioned pieces.
With a working studio at Urban Art Collective in Chamblee, GA, Carla shows her work to anyone who will visit her there. She also participates in several local art shows throughout the year. She currently has works available at ACP Interiors in Highlands, NC and at Straight to Art in Charleston, NC.
Carla received her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Northern Iowa and practiced for twelve years as a speech-language pathologist. Eight of those twelve years, she provided therapy to medically fragile infants and toddlers. After having two children of her own and caring for them at home for five years, she decided it was time follow her dream and officially become the artist she has always been. She eats, sleeps, and breathes art and is always contemplating her next piece or series.
Carla was born in Racine, Wisconsin and grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. She will always be a Midwestern girl at heart, but she is proud to call Atlanta her home since 2003.
